a little over a month ago i got the smallest reef octopus biopellet reactor available for my midi. I've been using the Werner biopellets. My understanding is that you are supposed to go slow with them, so I took the recommended dose for my tank size cut it half and then partitioned that half dose in 4 parts over a 1 month period (ie added 1/8 of recommended dose weekly for a month).
everything seems to be going well. nitrates and phosphates dropping. water is looking super crisp and clear -- all seems well. ive noticed that my ORP keeps climbing. i was regularly in the 290-310 range before the biopellets. now i'm up at 380. I have a general understanding of ORP and the tug of war between oxidizers and reducers. i know i can't look at the number and make conclusions, but i feel the relative change is rather large. do this seem "normal"? anyone else measure ORP and remember how theirs changed when they added biopellets or started dosing carbon?
