What's up everyone?

I'm about to ask a question that I think I know the answer to, but before I do let me catch you all up.

I have been out of the hobby for quite a few years, but itching to get back in. My cuz recently started a fowlr & that basically sealed the deal. One thing leads to another & I'm planning my build!

My cuz tells me that a friend of his is getting rid of a 75g bow RR, everything included; sump, skimmer, pump, lights, stand, canopy......etc. I ask to see pics & things look good enough to say ok.

Lets just say that when something sounds too good to be true, it usually is!! I get the delivery & lets just say the only thing I'm actually using is the DT.

What I thought was a cherry wood stand & canopy, was actually a painted brown stand. (Def not something my wife would want to look at & I would not blame her.)

The person who had the bright idea of painting the stand, also painted the trim of the tank....... it has got to go!!

Now for my question, would it be ok to use some sort of paint stripper or goo gone to remove the paint off the plastic trim? I never used any chemical on my systems, not even on the outside. The only reason I would consider is because nothing is set up....... any info would be great!!

Thanks in advance.......

Oh & I got a great deal on everything, thats why I kept the DT

What type of paint did they use?
I don't think goo off or goo gone would work "I like saying Goo, it's a fun word:smile:" read the warnings on the paint stripper probably not good on plastics, it's primary purpose is for wood, metal, and masonry. Motsenbocker has some products you probably could use, Lift Off for latex and they have a Graffiti Remover for spray paint"again read their directions and warnings".
The safest process is sand paper and some elbow grease. If you are concerned about a scuffed look then patience and with multi stage of sanding coarse sand paper to super fine sand paper, then use krylon paint for plastic.

Or you could just upgrade before you even start!!!

Good luck

if your only using dt, like klewis said just start over. watch the market threads, theirs always complete set ups for sale. i don't think its worth the effort if your only using the tank.

Thanks guys, I think your right about the chemicals & stuff. I kinda like the DT though, I think bow fronts are so cool. Besides the fact that I just built a piece of furniture for it. Lol. I will post pics soon. Thanks again!

bulldog paint stripper for plastics (should be available at many auto stores)

Try on a small section. You spray it on and the paint will wrinkle up then u just scrape/wipe off

Also please use caution when using this stuff as with any paint strippers. Wear a mask, eye protection, gloves and use it in a well ventilated area.
