painting tank stand question

My wife brought up the idea of doing an antique paint finish on our reef tank stand which is currently black (doesn't really match our room) - I think it would look awesome but an concerned about the paint fumes near the tank.

Has anyone painted their stands while the tank was up and going? Could the fumes cause trouble with the water?

could cause a skimmer to stop for awhile. Do not know abut the tank, buddy did some staining near his tank with an oil based stain and no problems

I just painted a stand on a working tank. Start early in the morning, open windows and doors and have lots of fans venting the fumes. Those all seem like simple precautions to me.

I'd throw some carbon on there just to be on the safe side

Definitely shut off any air pumps or any type air injection into the water column while painting
