Hi there,

I have a 29-gal reef setup (softies), live rock, 130watts of lighting bla bla bla, and so on. The only fish in there is a percula, about 1-3/4" long.

My question is how much to feed him. I've tried several types of flakes, pellets, brine shrimp etc. The one he/she seems to favour is Hikari Marine-S pellets. I usually feed it for about 3-4 minutes, one pellet at a time at the water's surface. - very active at feeding time.

My tank now has lots of pods on the rocks and bottom edge of the glass, along the substrate. I've noticed that he'll eat any of them that try to venture too high up the glass. (Fun to watch him hunt too :) . Should I be feeding less? I know pods are small, but it never hurts to ask...

As an aside, I've added a small (5" diam. when fully extended) LTA about a week ago. It's in the substrate, near the perc's usual territory. He's curious about it, but doesn't actively swim in/through it. I'm aware it's not his usual host in the wild, but I've seen him a couple of times bringing small chunks (too big for the perc to eat) of raw shrimp to the LTA, when I am feeding my polyps. I assume this would be a good sign that he might take to it?

Thanks for any input,
DoDo

It may take to the LTA and it is a good sign that it's actively feeding the LTA. I had a clarkii that loved his LTA. :)

You may want to try some thawed frozen Formula One or Prime Reef to try and vary the clowns diet a bit.

Really, just as you wouldn't like to eat biscuits all day every day he doesn't like your flakes either... treat the guy to some frozen stuff (blood worms, mysis, or formula).

How many pellets on average would you recommend a single Percula Clownfish should eat? Just as a rough guide.

Thanks
