Pigmy and Ebli Angels?

An aquariust is selling a Pigmy Angle and a Ebli Angel together. He says they have lived together in his 75 gallon setup peacefully and have NOT nipped at any of his corals. I am contemplating buying the two as a pair in my 54 gallon tank. What are everyone's thoughts on this. I ask because traditionally it has been stated that two dwarf angels (or any angels for that matter) should NOT be kept together. He is selling my the pair for 30 dollars..

That's a great deal! There is still some risk involved, whenever conditions change for a fish. They get along now in a 75, but there's a small possibility that they can quarrel in your 54.

Feeding moods can change as well. There are plenty of stories where a fish will be well behaved in a reeftank for years, and then all of sudden develop a taste for sessile invertebrates.

Just be prepared to remove them if things don't go accordingly. Have a fish trap or a tiny barbless hook ready, or worse case scenario, some containers for a tear down.

I'm assuming by pygmy angel you are referring to a cherubfish (centropyge argi). Personally, I'd buy the pair, keep the argi and sell off the eibli. Argis are generally known to be one of the lesser aggressive and more reef safe of the pygmy angels, while Eibli are the opposite. I had an eibli for a while and just recently got rid of it. That is one fish I will not miss. It was super aggressive towards everything and seemed to bite everything too.

Ok I will opt out of the Ebli. On a side note, the Pigmy Angel is blue with a yellowish head if that helps?

I will have two clowns and a yellow tang in there with him as well.

Would you suggest a Coral Beauty or the Pygmy? Note that I have about 53 lbs of live rock and soft corals....

While I agree that the Argis are generally more reef safe than either of the other two dwarfs mentioned, I wouldn't count on it being peaceful - particularly once established. Personally, given the choice, I would make it one of the last (fish) additions to the tank.

I agree that it should not be added before any fish that it may have the potential to bully around. I'd definitely go with the argi over the coral beauty. As beautiful as they are, you'd likely be in a similar situation as with the eibli.
