Pink Areas In Sand

I've been starting to see little "pink colorations" underneath the sand against the glass. What are those? Good? Bad? Neutral?

Does that mean I should mix around the sand more often?

Some Info: 110 gal reef with 100 lbs LR and about four inches of live sand.

Hmm... Possibly it's cyano bacteria.

It's under the sand though? or at the edge of it?

It's just under the surface of the sand surface. I'm not completely sure I understand "edge" but the ones I see are against the tank's glass. Although I suspect they're probably other places under the sand as well.


Three weeks ago there was one. There are now about eight different spots.

I'll look up cyano bacteria. Thank you.
