finally i know what the pistol's popping sounds like. it's kinda loud if you ask me.

i've had this pistol shrimp for a couple weeks now and last night i heard a noise, so of course i start looking @ the tank he's in and when i hear the second pop i see my harlequin fly like 2". could it be that the pistol's boom actually moved the harlequin that far or was the harlequin swimming away from the fiesty pistol?

i'm glad it was the larger harlequin and not the itty bitty one. should i be worried? will the pistol get too aggressive and start killing things in my tank?

here is a pic of the bad boy. kinda reminds me of a fire blood shrimp:

Most Pistol Shrimp species available to the aquarium trade are not aggressive and use the 'popping' as a defense/warning mechanism. However, there are species which use their pistol to stun prey.

i remember seeing a nature show and they showed a pistol stunning it's prey(ghost shrimp). i thought for a minute last night, that was what my pistol was trying to do.
