It's about to change. The MJO has been in phase 7. Which means east will be warm, west in storm. MJO is moving into phase 8, which means skiing in the east will be great.
The southern oscillation index has been falling fast too, = easterly trade winds will finally pick up and tear apart the central el nino, along with the western el nino that has been falling apart for some time. La Nina will make a strong comeback, certainly by next winter, probably sooner, and along with it colder temps again for the east. As far as the rest of this winter for the east, it will come soon, next week or 2, and last well into march. The mega center of snow will be much further south than last years Boston. Maybe DC, or a bit further west. A band stretching from Texas, all the way to the southern Appalachians will be below average temps, and way above average snow. That's my humble opinion anyway.
