I am getting frustrated. I have 1" bulkheads so 1" pvc coming out. I tried some 1.5" pool hose at the store and it was too big for the pvc. So I ordered some 1.25" pool hose and it is slightly too small to slip over the 1" pvc and slightly too big to go into a 1" connector or union. Is there anything I can do to salvage this and make it work?

Should I see if I can return it and get 1.5", cut off the ends, and hope that it will slip over the 1"pvc and either glue it or duct tape the s**t out of it? I need these tanks setup like last month and it seems everything I try for drains isn't going to work. I shouldn't have gotten the overflows I did they are really making things difficult since I can't use regular pvc or spaflex. I need something flexible.

Ok so I have a 1.5 x 1.25 pvc barb coupling and the 1.5 side will slip over the 1" pvc but the 1.25 barb won't fit into the coupler on the pool flex hose. I am scared to cut the coupler off to try it because then I couldn't return it.

Maybe something like this would work?

Here are the measurements of the couplers on the ends of the pool flex hose (I was planning to cut it in half and use each half for a drain):

1) 1 1/4 ID - 1 1/2 OD
2) 1 3/16 ID - 17/16 OD

Is the PVC glued to the bulkhead? I. Recently bought hose from lfs that had the PVC attached to the hose and it slipped into the bulkhead. If yours is reversed it should still work as. It would essentially be same concept. I found it easier to pay few more bucks at lfs and not go crazy trying to make it fit or find the right fit. Pm cell if you want and I'll snap a few pics for you

That's called a Fernco fitting and it could solve your problem. My question to you is, doesn't your bulkhead have threads on the outside, so you can screw the nut onto it? If it does (which I suspect it does), then no, the Fernco fitting will not work. How about a picture of your bulkhead and tubing.

I will try to get some pics up. I am not at home until tomorrow night. My bulkheads are 1" and are threaded on the outside. I put a short piece of 1" pvc into them but it is not glued in yet. I read somewhere that 1 1/4" pool hose would work but it looks like 1" pvc is really 1.31" OD. I brought a piece of 1" pvc to a local pool store and they only had 1.5" hose which was too big.

You mean spa flex like flex pvc? I have 25' of that but it is not really that flexible. I have two tanks on a rack so I need to clear the shelf the tanks are on as well as the drains below and then go into my sump on the end.

typicall both ends are either male OR female slip ends

If it's a male end then it will slip right into your bulkhead and the other end can hang loose or go into the top of your filtration whether it be a wet/dry or a filter sock holder.

If it's a female end then you'll hook it up to the piece of pipe that you put in your bulkhead and the other side would need a short piece of pipe to hook it up.

Either way, it is specifically made for 1" PVC.

You can also get a more expensive version of it on Dr. Foster & Smith that is customizable.

if the pool hose is a little small, heat it lightly either over stove or boiling water and slip over pvc. i have don it before.

I would NOT, under any circumstance heat it over an open flame. It might have worked for you, but the possibility of the pvc deforming or warping is far too great a chance to take. If it deforms it will not hold a seal, and it will leak.

If you want to use the boiling water or even a blow dryer, you'd have much less incidence of damage to the pvc, tubing or flex pipe.

C'non now! What's wrong with a little cyanide in the air for the sake of an aquarium? ;)

Return.what u have and go.to.a.pool store and they'll hook u up.or the spa flex canbe extended with PVC. JMO... 'cause things will.go.smoother. If you're handy and you have experience heating up tubing then give it a try but if you're not comfortable with it then there are materials made for.exactly what you're trying to.accomplish without the risk of a future spill. We all know this hobby will always go hand in hand with accidental spills anyway so IMO why ask for a potential problem?

It looks like this this but is made for pools. I posted the sizing for the 'cuff' ends on the previous page.

If I were to try the heating trick should I cut the cuffs off and try to heat the tub itself or try heating those? If it doesn't work though I can't return it.

The reason that I didn't buy the fish hose was because I needed the sections longer.

I needed longer drains too so I just extended them with one inch PVC and the spa flex hoses that r about four feet each.

cmantis a 1" pvc has an outer diameter of 1.25" if the hose you purchased is 1.25" it will work. get a cup and put in microwave and get it to boil, dip about 2" of the hose and slip it on, don't forget the clamp before doing this. If you need help i can swing by on the way home from work, I can bring some hose with me if you like
