Power Consumption on a 75g

Just trying to (Ballpark) calculate what it costs to run my 75 g tank.. as I may have to get rid of my tank based on power output.. also any thoughts about how much switching from halides to LED's would save me! Any thoughts/help or wattage info is appreciated!

3 150w halides running about 6 hours a day
LED night lights about 12 hours (very little output)
mag 9 return
skimmer - runs a mag 5
UV and carbon/phosphate run a maxi jet each
1/4 h/p chiller - running a mag 5
MP40 vortech
1 koralia 4
1 aqua controller jr
1 stealth heater - (rarely on)

What you should do, is get the wattage of each item on your list. Then you need to add them up. This will give you wattage per hour.

But figure your lights separately since they are not on 24/7. Then you need to find your electric bill and then figure out how much you pay per watt or kilowatt and then calculate from there.

I would say don't trust the listed wattage, especially pumps, even though most of them can be found from their corresponding manufacturer's websites. If you can get a kill-a-watt meter, use that.

Very true. Bu for a ballpark number can just use listed wattage

Your mag 9 is probably pretty high up there on list of energy hogs. The big pumps that run all day (skimmer, return, etc) are normally the largest cost.

Trying to cut back? Maybe run your reactors, uv and possibly chiller all off the return pump
