My semifaciatus angle took a crap and I saw a long white thread coming out of it. This is probably an internal parasite. I was thinking of dosing prazipro. I have a reef tank. Does anyone know the dosing? AlsoI understand that the skimmer and UV have to be shut off.
Basically it's 1 teaspoon per 20gals of water, and you do need to shut off your skimmer. Prazipro is supposedly safe for reef tanks but it will kill worms and feather dusters. Before treating I would make sure that what came out was actually a parasite and not just crap. It's also best to try and catch the fish and treat it in a separate tank.
I've used it recently, just as prophylaxis.
Turned off my skimmer and my UV's...I can't understand why they recommend that you turn off the UV lights?
The very next day, I got Ich! Prophylaxis my ...
Are you seeing wasting diseases on your fish?
"elongated white thread" could have been some fiber from lettuce or something.
Also look into metronidazole for protozoa treatment.
I have Dr G antibacterial frozen food I am dosing that.. it contains kanamycin an amino glycoside and metrinidazole. The fish seem to be eating it. I am a little nervous on turning off the UV.. a I don't want a icy outbreak.
The UV won't affect the medicated food. Also, this is a reef tank right? The food is probably fine, but none of the other medications being discussed are 100% reef safe including prazi. Why are you using the anti-bacterial food instead of the de-wormer food if you suspect internal worms? Certainly you are free to set your own priorities, but I wouldn't risk my reef trying to treat a single fish for something you aren't even sure it has.
