Protien Skimmer Question

Ok so I have me skimmer running... BUT what is the best way to run it?

Meaning I see alot of folks talking about dialing it in. But what does dialing it in consist of? Since I dont have my live rock even in the tank till next week I obviously wont be even skimming anything at this point but I feel that I would rather have the right equipment up and running first.

Jon,
It depends upon what type of skimmer you have. When they talk about dialing it in you have to adjust the outlet valve inoder to get the right amout of air and water mix.
But like I said depends on the type of skimmer you have i.e. Downdraft, venturi, ect.

yeah, it all depends on the type of skimmer. once you install it, you'll need to make minor adjustments to make sure it's working at optimal level and not just wasting energy.

Dialing it in can mean modifying the amount of air getting in the skimmer or the height of the water in the skimmer. It can take a skimmer a while to break in and skim properly and skimming the new rock will let you get a feel for the skimmer.
