I'm using six magnetic impeller pumps on my 72 g set up. I find that I must turn these pumps off three or four times a week for feeding the soft corals and for changing water. Am I doing damage to these pumps using them in this manner. I've heard they are designed to run continuously, so that's why i'm asking the question. Thanks.

(The pumps are a Sedra, Mag 5, 2 tunze and 2 koralia's).

Pumps definitely don't prefer to be turned on and off often. But you don't have much choice if you plan to do target feedings.

The question is do you target feed? If you simply feed the tank, you might just want to turn off your skimmer pump and let the stuff go through your system. A good hint for that too is to put it on a timer, such that it'll automatically turn back on should you forget :D
