I recently acquired a purple monster colony (with a lineage) for super cheap. Reason I got it cheap was due to a few things. First, the guy was breaking down his tank. Secondly, Hurricane Ike came in and he was without power for a couple of days. Now, I didn't offer him an ridiculously low price to save his corals...he made the offer to me and I was even prepared to offer more. But, there was some recession on it and is tank did have some AEFW's I think. Regardless, I brought it home, dipped it and put it in the tank. The tissue continued to recede, so I had to frag up the colony into two mini colonies, five 1" frags, and two or three 2+" frags.

Anyways, here's mine:

The pics don't do too much justice. And the frags have lost a little bit of color due to high nutrients in my tank and the fact that the tank is basically new because I pretty much just upgraded to it. I have my doubts about it's proper id though. It is supposed to be a Tyree Purple Monster (again I have lineage) but I can never be 100% sure. Let me know what you guys think and also show off your own purple monsters if you got them.

That's a nice looking little PM colony you got there. I hope it does well for you. They are fairly hardy IMO.

I had a PM that was the real deal as acquired from Sand Dollar on RC who got it from Len. I have since returned it to Len and he still has it today.

I was going to post a picture of it, but my whole 300G tank picture file seems to be missing. If I find it, i'll post it.

If we're lucky, Len will post a picture of it along with a picture of the original Purple Monster. Come on Len, don't let that camara phobia stop you. :P

Brandon,

I just finished reading through your 24G Nano thread.

That's a nice looking nano and it just happens to be the same tank and light fixture that I decided to buy in this thread. I bought a different skimmer and hope I don't have to cut the frame to make it fit. Nanotuners says it'll it (Sapphire skimmer).

How the water temp with that 150W light?

I'll be glad when mine looks as good as yours.

my temp on that tank would get around 84 by the end of the day and no lower than 80 at night, but i kept my apartment around 80 degrees since i was always having ac problems and at the end of the day the sun would beat down on that side of the apartment. but you could easily keep that tank in a desirable range if you keep your house at a decent temperature.
