So I'm gonna be setting up a QT tank for fish and coral. This will NOT be medicated at all, ever. If i need to medicate i will move to another tank. This will be strictly for QT only. I'll be using my old nano which is a 20g high with sump.
Obviously it will be bare bottom. My plan is to have the rack below on one side for coral and a piece of live rock on the other for fish comfort. All the usual equipment will be housed in the sump. Am I missing anything here? Should I pull the rock and put in the sump instead and just use PVC in the QT instead? Thoughts please.

What medication for the corals? I would dip then QT and dip again if needed. If I had to treat the corals for anything say red bugs or flatworms it's a fish safe in tank treatment anyway. I'm not sure I follow what you mean. Can you please explain further.

hold on your saying if you happen to have flatworms or red bugs on your corals you would dip them back in the QT while you have your fish in the QT as well?

Why are you not getting this. Are you reading the same stuff I'm writing. of ate you f'ing with me. There will be no I repeat no medication of any kind in the QT. I will dip all corals prior to putting into QT. if fish ever have to be medicated they will go into another tank. I am not putting dip into the water with fish in it. I feel dumb just trying to explain this to you. You must be f'ing with me.

No need to get all worked up for. If you would of explained your question WELL in the first place you wouldn't have to be repeating your self. I still don't understand how you can have a qt with corals. If you was to answer my first post it would make things much easier to understand. If you do have a dt for your corals only wouldn't that be considered a frag tank? Learn how to explain your question WELL before starting a thread!

So basically you want to run the qt tank as an observation tank and if problems arise you would remove and use a separate tank to treat with medications. Along with having a section for grow out.

I have no clue wtf Angelo is saying lol.

I do the same general idea because I don't want to ruin my second tank with meds. A good cover and reliable equipment should be all you need.

Some people may suggest sumping the liverock and using PVC so the fish are easier to catch when it's time but it's truly up to you aesthetically. Just remember if something was to have an outbreak. Fish would need to be qted and that observation tank would have to be stripped and possibly treated as well... Ie: ick - would need to start treatment tank and leave observation tank clear for 8+ weeks.

This type of idea would only be for people with a lot of self control and not someone who will be adding out of control

++1 well put. I think its a great idea, thinking of doing something similar for grow out corals beside my nano. I like what you did with the egg crate #DIY

OMG. Thank you. I didn't know how to clear it up any more. I've had problems with nudis and red bugs in the past so I just want to observe the corals for a while before they hit the DT. Thanks for the tip on the rock vs PVC. To be honest I'm only using a sump cause the tank is already drilled. Thx again.

Thx. Pretty easy. Only problem was that the crate available to me leaches phosphates or something. It usually ends up covered with algae. I might make a similar smaller one with acrylic instead.
