Questions for Vendors

Hi.

I have been reading and joined MR because I want to set up an AIO tank.

Now I'm obsessed! I'm a writer (romance fiction), and have decided to use marine aquariums and the "reefing world" as background for my next manuscript.

I currently working on character sketches, and want the "hero" to be a vendor. I'm asking you, the vendors, to help me out with some info and details to help give my manuscript authenticity.

They type of info I'm looking for:

Do you have a storefront? Or just work through internet and phone orders?

How long did it take to build your business? Did you take over/buy an existing business or start from scratch?

What would you say the mainstay of your business is? Livestock? Maintenance? Design and set up?

Does your business focus on one particular specialty, ie design, maintenance, private hobbyists, business?

What percentage of new customers stick with reefing?

Do the big box stores hurt your business (financially?)

Do you travel at all/ a lot for business?

Anything in particular that I'm not asking that would be important to know?

It does sound funny, but I think it can work.

I didn't PM the vendors. Because I'm still an unknown entity, I was afraid PMing several vendors would come across as obnoxious or trolling.
