quick mushroom and algea question-

1. Regarding mushrooms, is this what they do? when they drip off the rock will it re-attach to the next one down? if you look closely at the base you can see little new ones forming...


2. The coral line algea you see here is the remains of what was once bright purple, then turned to white (in the sun), and now is slightly pink with green edges, very very very difficult to remove...

yes shrooms will re-attach and you will need a straight edge for the glass

Kent pro scraper or a plain old razor blade will get the coraline off.

Even an expired credit card will do the trick (not as good as the metal scraper though - in the long run you want one). Take care not to scratch the tank (by catching some sand or coraline algae in the scraper/card).

im lucky in that my course at uni "science" gives me access to alot of surgical razor blades. ive got about 5 sitting at home as glass cleaners!

If you have a mag float, look into: www.oceansmotions.com under "mag scraper." You can scape away that coralline without having to dip your hands in the pond

Yep, shrooms asexually bud like that all the time. Usually the new colonies grow where they propogate. Sometimes, they drift to other parts of the tank.
