I am going to be ordering a precision marine calc reactor this week and was going to start running it when it arrived i was talking to a fellow hobbiest the other day and told him about and he said he would not run the reactor for about the first 6 monthe because it will cause a algae bloom the only way i could see this happening is if excess co2 was being added to the system any body have experience with this

Yeah well, periods aside,
are you using a PH controller? You should be, and if so, don't worry about the excess co2. There are other things that cause algae blooms, especially if you have a new tank. Keep very good water aeration, your skimmer should help with this, keep a good water testing schedule, especially on a new tank, and keep us informed on any problems.

Good luck.
