They're pretty useless for nutrient export...but they're interesting and can create an interesting biotope.

Where did you hear this? At the New England aquarium, they just use a huge mangrove to filter out there jellyfish tank! Link me to the article that says there useless for nutrient export, cause from what I read it says they can eventually eliminate the use of a protein skimmer.

Same thing I heard Jawwad. They are useless unless you have a TON of them, prolly like 1 for every gallon of water, meaning sump+tank+fuge...etc...For them to actually be useful they'd have to be big tooo. The one I got doesnt even have any leaves, their just starting to grow.

Ever see them grow? SLOOOOOOOOW.....very few leaves. How much PO4 can you remove when they grow so slowly? I haven't seen behind the scenes at New England (Next time I go up there I'll stop in) but I'm sure that the mangroves are the smallest part of their filtration system.

Look into jelly care/prop...there's a lot more to their care than most people know...like sterilizing the tank periodically to kill hydroids...skimming and UV are mandatory.

Again, they make a cool tank...enjoy them for that and get some chaeto if you want to grow macros...
