I currently have a 50/50 bulb in my original All Glass aquarium hood as a replacement bulb (50% actinic).

I would like to have something a little more like the metal halide lighting in my 120 gallon tank, so that when I move corals into the 30 gallon tank or even just live rock, growth will continue and the corals will be used to the lighting amounts. This 30 gallon tank is a quarantine tank, and will have peppermint shrimp for cleaning aiptasia and probably a bunch of crabs for cleaning up algae from live rock and corals from the 120 gallon tank.

Is there a place you could recommend that I could find a light fixture to fit the top of my 30 gallon aquarium? It is
35 1/8" x 11 7/16" on the inside of the top, and
36 1/4" x 12 9/16" on the outside of the top of the tank.

Maybe I should just clamp on a couple of those units used for nano tanks...

I have a little chiller for this tank if necessary for use with metal halides.

Any help would be appreciated :)

I have two BlueLine 400W metal halide fixtures running 14K bulbs in the 120 gallon tank 4'x2'x2'. Here is a link to what these horizontal pendants look like:

When I go to the 9 foot tank (arriving this Friday!) I planned on adding two more of these horizontal pendant style fixtures (maybe or maybe not BlueLine) for a total of 4. I considered rigging up something on this 30 gallon to use one of the four pendants until I moved into the 9 foot tank, but it might be too much light and odd to mount. It also wouldn't be a permanent solution.

So what did you find Mr. X?

ive actually owned that exact light on a 37g tank and I loved it. Great light. Just a word though.. if you get the 20k bulb from coralife that comes with it it will look more like a 10k.

But, great pendant. no problems. It DOES run a little hot and you cant put it in a hood without heat issues though.

I went for a couple of the clamp on JBJ K-2 Viper 150W HQI Clamp on Lamp Lighting Fixtures for some flexibility now and in the future (maybe on a refugium or nano tank). Here is a link:

Hopefully two of these will put out enough light for the 30 gallon. As I was saying earlier I want to have this lighting for when I move corals over so they will be used to the metal halide light, so I can at least spotlight the corals.

Maybe I could try out one of those underwater light meters to match the lightning. Have you guys tried them?

Thanks for the input. I ALMOST went for the pendant, but thought these gooseneck fixtures would give me a little more flexibility (even though I need two to get the same amount of light as that 250 W pendant).
