This is a quote from a guy from our local reef club:

In a multi state attempt to help with the "Save a reef program" Ga. as well as Ca., Fl, NY., Al., Ms., and TX, The sale of any type of coral for home exhibition use will be prohibited without a NOAA certified permit where you can demonstrate an actual need for the coral in conservation or Medical research.

People 9:00 am Monday we all need to be on the phone with our congressmen and Senators, This bill is moving thru quickly because people are unaware of it's existence, so it has met no resistance.

Wake up people this is your hobby!

I'm working on a link to this bill. I believe it is House bill HB-0401.

Anyone else heard about this? :?

umm, the house bill number (0401) should be a clue.

LOL Good eye!!

But I really hate April fool's jokes like this. Partly because when I was 13 I read an article in Discover magazine about the "hot-headed mole rates" that I didn't learn was a joke until *10 years* later (after I'd told countless people all about the horrid creatures).

In any case, I highly doubt something like this would ever pass even if it was a real bill. And even in the odd event that it did, there's no way existing hobbyists wouldn't be "grandfathered in" and allowed to keep anything they already had.

I think the best April Fool jokes have an element of the ridiculous built, just to see how closely people are reading. This one is subtle and real enough to work well, but there needs to be something buried half-way down that would set alarm bells ringing for the attentive reader.

And that's my critique. :P

Personaly, I think this is a perfect example of how peaple believe ANYTHING that is posted, add just enough material and the gossip machine cranks into high gear. I am of course referring to another post about someone who is being accused after the gossip machine had chewed him to pieces, all due to fragmented info. I'm still totaly disgusted.
