Just to clarify: when they say "cooking" they actually mean let it sit in a tub of saltwater without light. Keep the skimmer running and do the regular water changes. Get a couple of the giant mexican Turbos and you should be good to go in no time.

The lack of light will starve the algae. Its also a good idea to run phosban to further aid in the starving of the algae.

thanks but i wasnt referring to cooking the rocks in the oven or a frying pan...haha......whats if i leave the rocks to dry....?im slowly transferring my livestock into another tank.... and redoing my 46 bow.....with a new stand and sump...maybe a HO light also......the thing with scrubbing it is that the rocks have hard to reach crevices that some algae is hiding in...i dont have an extra skimmer and i only have some extra powerheads....any more ideas?

do things right auto... if you let the rocks dry out u will kill everything thats in the rock... which u will need to cure afterwards because u have all that die off that will go into ur tank (u do not want all that in there)... i would take hermans recc. and do it that way.. take ur time and do it the right way... good luck..

yea i do plan on doing what herman said.......the amount of rock i want to remove the algae from is about 25 lbs...not too much....also the rocks was somewhat dry already when i got it....the algae is killin me ....
this may be stupid....but what if would happen if i threw them in a bucket...add freshwater....and a powerhead....and do regular water changes.....would it possibly work?or does the hair algae live in freshwater too?

Lol i feel your pain man..... while cooking maybe the best way to get rid of the algae for me it was the worst..... The stench of this thing is horrendous and unbearable..... I think leaving it to dry or putting it in some bleach water is your best bet..... Gud luck and keep us posted
