I've been using an older rio 2100 for mixing water, last night it created an oil slick in my mixing container. I have pics I'll post later.

I'm glad this thing was not in my tank, there were thick globs of oil and spots of thin filmy sooty looking stuff on the surface and under the water. On the bottom were more piles of gunk.

I guess it was just a mater of time, this pump was about five years old.

Just a reminder for those that might have a rio in their tank.

Actually ive been reading about how terrible rio pumps are on RC since i started looking there about 3 years ago. many people had their whole tank crash because of them, i wouldnt put one in my tank ever! i really dont see why people want to take that risk of using it in their tanks!??!!

yes Rio's have a bad rap on RC, now I know why. if enough people have one turn into the valdez and post it that's a tough thing for people to ingnore.

there are other pumps that don't seem to have that problem.

i think he seios arent built the same way rios are, i think seios arent oil fill now i heard they are epoxy filled like the rest of their pumps, but im wondering why TTAM doesnt just make their rio line epoxy filled as well.
