A Yankee great and a brave person to bear such a terrible condition and to be optimistic.I believe he was #2 before Jeter.I'll miss him and I'm sure we all will miss him.Bye Bobby.
Murcer wore # 1 from 1969 - 1974. When he came back in '79 Billy Martin had taken #1, so he wore #2 from 79-83. For Yankee fans like me who rooted for the Bombers in the early 70's, "the dark years", he was definitely the player to root for.
My first favorite Yankee. He was going to be the next Mickey Mantle - a fellow Oklahoman and converted shortstop and while he was never the superstar that Mick was, he had warmth and charm and compassion and it showed in everything he did. So long Bobby - me and my kids will miss you.
when i was a kid i caught a HR ball off Mercer's bat, as with any kid, he became someone i came "to bat" as (munson was my fav). I was very emotional when i heard of his passing....
