Risking the Steve Irwin treatment

I have the opportunity to get my hands on the two beauties in the pic attached. They are about 4" across and will fit nicely in my big tank. The problem is that I have to grab a mask and go swimming in the tank once a week as part of the regular maintenance. I have been told it should all be fine and that they wont be a problem... if I stop posting and you read about a dumbass SA cop that got offed by a stingray, you will know what happened.... :wink:

I'm assuming they're in Andy's predator tank rather than his reef, but I can't remember which is the big tank...

You go for a swim in your predator tank? That's hard-core. It makes me want to make my neighbor's pool a piraña pond (without telling them first).

Not in the predator tank Bill! They are going in the LPS tank when they are eating properly. They are reef safe. Tom, currently they are About 4 inches across and grow to twice that- there is more than enough room in my 1000ga for them. I put 30 anthias, caught in front of my house, in there yesterday and it's starting to approach it's comfortable stocking capacity. Will post some pics when the blue spots are in.

Ah, for some reason I assumed they'd get really big (and therefore too likely to knock things over in a reef tank). Very interesting addition.

blue spot just need space and sand bed to be very successful feeding is easy just push in frozen clam or cracked scallops into the sand and they pounce ...its cool to watch...


they also learn to enter the water column and will take food out of your hands...

That's amazing! I've always loved Bluespotted Rays. Keep us posted on how they settle into your reef!
