My plan is to hard plumb my RO/DI unit so I always have water on hand for changes and top offs. My tanks go through about 20 gallons of water a week in evaportion.

I was also planning to upgrade my spectrapure with a 75gpd membrane...

With it hard plumbed, would it be better to stick with the 36gpd and have it run more frequently, or a 75 and have it shut off more often?

I seem to remember hearing the more it runs the better it is on the membrane...

Mark, it is better to have a smaller unit running 24 hours a day versus a larger unit that is shut off. RO membranes are optimized for constant positive pressure. Most mfg suggest 12 hours per day is ideal for their units, so rate accordingly.

Thanks thats what I thought. I hate having to pull it out and hook it to the kitchen sink any time I need water, it results in less water changes and tap water for evaporation =/

Not yet, but mostly for my own lazieness. I need to order a plastic vat for water storage, then get the RO unit all plumbed up with the float valves and Kent water shutoff piece. WIll be a few weeks most likely.
