Should I have any reservations of rust-proofing my CO2 tank?

I purchased a new 10 pounder and considering giving it a coat of Rust-oleum. Either spray or brush-on.

Thoughts?

This is why I get aluminum tank... lighter too.

Depends on how you going to fill the CO2 when it empties, you may not want to do that. For example, if you are swapping a different tank, then you will need to do it every time you get the CO2 refill. However, if you are getting the same tank back, then it maybe worthwhile, at least for about 5 yrs or so. These tanks needs to be hydro-tested every few years, and you may not get the same tank back.

I don't think it'll hurt a thing.

I always trade my tank in for a filled one, so some times I get a nice clean one, and sometimes I get a real ugly one.

I don't care how it looks myself. It ain't on display.

Sorry, mine's aluminum. Does that mean rust and corrosion is not an issue?

I won't be swapping this one out. There's are local place that will refill it onsight with food-grade CO2 for $17.

Thanks again, ck!

Probably not necessary then. Just be sure to wipe off any saltwater that spills on it and rust shouldn't be a problem

no need. scuba tanks are aluminum and the yearly rust inspection is a scam ... it has no place in AL tanks but only steel.

but onethings for certin. no need to worry about a tank. worst it will ever (usualy do) is blow up during a hydro test were tehy fill the tank past its limit. i was told by luxfur ( aluminum tank makers) that chemicals like that and most paint can actualy danmage the tank

then again. i only know about scuba not co2 tanks but as far as i know they are the same

Do people who have an aluminum boat "rust"-proof the boat with paint? :?

i think so but boats arnt under pressure and are also ALWAYS in water. for a co2 or scuba tank ( according to luxfur) using paint of certin types can cause danmage to the tank and cause it to form a leak when being filled.

call the company and get what you can and cant do in writting. that way if somthing happens to you or to the filling station you can pin it on them
