OK, I got my water tested today at an LFS. Everything was zero and good except for my Salinity and specific gravity.

My salinity was 28, specific gravity at 1.021.

He told me it should be at 25 Salinity, and the indicating specific gravity at 1.018.

Is this correct? What do you run your tanks at?

TIA.

Whoa, I totally disagree.

IMO 35ppt - 37ppt is normal salinity.

I'm going to call them later on today. The guy who tested my water was one of many people who work there. So, if I phone them, may I'll get a different answer... I'm just not too confident about this whole thing now.

I agree with Guy.

Accepted average values for natural seawater are S=35 ppt and SG=1.0264 @ 77 deg F (25 deg C).

IMO it doesn't make much sense to maintain a reef tank at anything other than NSW levels.

I called the LFS back, and talked to another person there. They are in agreement with what you guys have posted. They also said that they would talk to the guy who gave me incorrect information.

only reason to ever keep it that low is to fight paracites... and from what i understand its only ok to do short term.

1.025- 1.030 is good specific gravity

as for the lfs. never trust them and dont buy their water ( pre made saltwater) since alot of them tend to keep the salility low. ( below 1.022)

also pick up a copy of the reef aquarium.
and stay away from the book called marine problom solver. ( or what ever it is called. ill find the name of it later)
