Hey Im new to the saltwater community. Could anyone tell me what type of filtration system is best for saltwater fish and coral reefs?

Hey thanks for the info. Im starting a 55 gallon fish only tank actually.... decided to stay away from coral looks a little difficult.

For hang on the back go with a "Continuous Siphon Overflow"

Then for a sump I would keep it real simple since ur a newbie on go with a simple wet dry sump. I would build my own but this is a good one to buy.

Add some Chemi-pure elite and a bag of Purigin

Add a Skimmer to the sump I would go with

Thats about it. I hoped this helped. I've been keeping FOWLR tanks for 10years and if i was just starting out I would go with the above.

There is not gonna be one definate answer to your question. Although there are a majority of people running tanks with sumps. Even the sumps are set up different with an endless list of combinations. I would do some research, find out what would work best in your situation, don't forget about maintaing the filter and tank as well. a fish only tank will be more forgiving than a reef tank but it's still no drop in the bucket. Also take equipment cost into consideration.
