Got a chunk of rock from LFS and had a stowaway on board. He looks like he's from the mantis type shrimp family. He's about a half inch long and striped in yellow, white and black, like a bee. LFS says bumble bee shrimp, imagine that. He comes out during the daylight and doesn't seem to bother anything. I will try to get a pic if needed. Any info appreciated. Yank 'em or leave 'em?

Are the eyes on stalks? If so, that's pretty diagnostic for a mantis. If it is a mantis, it could live a fairly happy life in your sump, not to mention being a great curiosity to visitors!

I found out that it is indeed a bumble bee shrimp, a relative of the harlequin shrimp. The only hitch is that it has a specialized diet of sea urchin tube feet. Unless it happens to feed on something else in the tank, it will most likely starve to death. Too bad, as it is pretty cool looking.
