They are quite territorial, but you can have a pair or trio in a large tank. You MUST add them at the same time! Although small, they're quite active and need lots of swimming room, so no 40 gallons.
I would introduce a very small trio simultaneously in at least a 150 gallon and see what happens. You may have to pull one out sooner or later. Hopefully you will end up with a pair.

Some people keep sixlines in nano-reefs, which is cruel to say the least.

I have two , one in a 55 and one in a 150. I really like them and might be recieving a 300 and wanted to know how they will get a long in the tank.
Thanks again JimM

No problem, but remember that adding two to a tank is much more risky than adding 3 or more. :) This goes with any aggressive fish. The reason is that there is always a dominant individual, and if you only have two fish, that dominant fish only has one fish to pick on. That subdominant fish usually ends up dead. You want to spread the aggression around.

No problem, the only problem is finding another six line wrasse that is an adult. If i get lucky i will put three, if not then one

JimM,
Will the mysteria wrasse get along with the six line or do i have to put them in together also?

Mystery wrasses and sixlines will likely not get along at all.

Jim,
A friend of mine (yes, I have 2 friends with spawning sixline pairs!) has a pair in 2 linked 29 gallon tanks. Pretty cool. He got them as juveniles and added them together.

A mystery and a sixline? With a 300 I'd be tempted to try, but who knows? If you absolutely must have one of them, (I'm guessing the mystery), keep it and go with a candy hog or radiant wrasse or something rather than mixing within the genus. Not saying it can't work but I wouldn't try it with a $200+ fish.

Honestly i will probably get the candy and radiant also. i will have to wait til i get the 300 up and running then decide on putting them both in at the same time or just keeping the six line i already have.
Again thanks for the info
