Hi I just got me 30 gal converted tank up and running alot thanks to this group. Due to space restrictions I had to put a REd Sea prizm on the back. I have 3 maxijet 1200's hooked up to a wavemaker, and 4x24watt T5 lighting system, arcadia. I just put in water and salt and turned it on, no live rock yet. The skimmer is very noisy to me. Perhaps when it starts to produce foam, the foam will absorb the sound :). Is it important to have the skimmer on all the time? Can I give it a break 4-8 hours 2-3 times a week when I am with clients? Somehow I think it will depend what ends up living inside.

Thanks for your help

I've always run a skimmer 24/7, but then I've never had a Red sea so I don't know if there is a way to quiet it. I don't see a problem with turning it off for a few hours a week, but as you posted that depends on the bioload in the tank.

I like to runmy skimmer 24/7. I do not see there being a big problem if you need to turn it off once and a while.
