I recently bought a skimmer from a friend of mine and i have had it running on my tank for a few days now and he called me last night and told me that he is really sorry and forgot to tell me that he used copper on his tank. Now my question is what are the chances that this skimmer has already affected my corals? Since its been 5 days nothing has happenned yet. here is the history of the skimmer it is about a year old and was only used for a few weeks and copper was used to fight Ick, but it has not been running since december so it has been dry for about 7 months and i rinsed it before i put it on my tank.

if copper had leached into your system u would know right away corals cant take any copper get a polyfilter and fresh carbon and keep it in the system also copper doesn't stick to plastic like glass because its not pores but i would take the skimmer out and put it completly submerged in a bucket with water and vinegar and let it run for a day or two. copper will only leach out if u alter the ph and vinegar is good for that .by the way if copper does leach into your tank the polyfilter will grab it right away and you will see the color change on the pad
