I've been running my Octopus Recirc 150 for a while now, and really like it. My question is how much water should I be pumping into it for maximum skimming power? Right now I have a MJ900 feeding it.. would it be even more effective if I put a MJ1200 on?

Of course, that is very debatable.
On my 120 I have an ASM G-3 (rated for 180GPH) with recirc/mesh/ venturi mod with near 500GPH running through it on a 165G system and am happy with the skimmer. The system has 7 fish. On my 40 I have a Euroreef RS80 with recirc/mesh/venturi mod with near 100GPH (via our local skimmer experts advice) feeding it on a 60G system and am not happy. The system has one fish. I tell myself the lack of skimmate is from lack of fish. I also think it need more GPH just so I dont have to choke the output back so far.

Long story short. If your happy with your skimmate, dont have cyano or other algeas and your corals look good, its likely fine. IMO only you can determine whether or not your skimmer is working at peak performance for your tank.
