skimmer please help

Hey i had a 55 gallon tank and now am setting up my 180 gallon tank. I had a Reef Octopus 1000 Skimmer Specifications: SRO-1000 Internal is has the bubble blaster hy1000s as its pump. I was offered a low priced but used ASM G3 for my new 180 gallon tank. Should i toss my old reef octupus and purchase the asm g3.

The SRO is much too small for your 180. Same with the ASM G3. Much better options out there.

IMO the ASM G 3 is not powerful enough for a 180G tank as it is only rated to 250G. The Reef Octopus is even weaker.
You should be aiming for a skimmer that will handle at least twice your water volume.

I don't really like making recommendations off of manufacturer ratings. No two companies are the same. Some are very close to real-life numbers while others are WAY overrated.
