Hi guys,

Due to financial issues and a new baby, I am down grading to 60g (24x24x24) cube. Currently I have asm g3 but due a smaller sump I cannot use that. So I am thinking of using AquaC Urchin Pro 20'' rated for 40-120g. The cube will be a mixed reef with mostly leather, lps and few sps (monti caps).

Do you thing AquaC will be good skimmer? Can you guys recommend another skimmer with similar foot print (8x8)? Thanks.

Never seen a good review of the Urchin, but with an 8x8 space you have some options. The Tunze skimmers would probably fit the bill, maybe the 9005? I think you could fit a Bubblemaster 160 or the MSX 160, both look nice with Sicce pumps.
I dont think you can fit any of the insump Octo's but maybe an external like the ddnw150 or a DAS EX-1 would also work well. Also Bermuda Rogue HOB or 3C would work too.

Edit: the MSX and BM160 are a bit bigger than 8x8.

grundig5,

What are you running on you 24x24 sps tank?

I can use the asm g3 but I do not have enough space under the tank. What if I add 20g refuge with deep sand bad and hang a remora pro, will this be ok for a mixed reef of 24x24 tank.

I run a DAS EX-1 and it works pretty good I guess. I dont have much sump room so I opted to run an external skimmer which is something to consider. The only issue is the potential for it to overflow, which is something I am worried about and skim very dry to make myself feel better. I have never owned any AquaC products so I cant recommend them or discourage them...but from what I've read the smaller ones are not so great.
