Skimmer Recommendations

OK, I think it's time to ditch my Coralife Super Skimmer (65g). This thing is VERY hard to control properly. If you turn the red gate valve know just a fraction of an arc-second CW or CCW, it either gradually causes the cup to skim very wet (wasting RO/DI auto-topoff and gradually desalinitating your tank) OR it just bubbles away mid-cone with not much skimmate. The best I was ever able to do was to get some clearish green tea - NEVER the thick black gunk I see all over the place on this and other reef sites.

SO! I have narrowed down my selection to several skimmers that have similar footprints (this will be an in-sump skimmer):

All Seas Marine ASM-G2
Vertex IN-80
Coralvue Octopus NWB-150
Coralvue Octopus DNWB-110
Coralvue Octopus 160 Extreme

All of these are similar in footprint size but I can?t narrow down which one to get. Any suggestions?

I haven?t looked at the Diablos? Any ideas on those?

bubble magus nac7 would be my goto skimmer, but...

my best advice it to put up your skimmer space dimensions and depth also a budget.

The stats on the Coralife Super Skimmer 65g are:

Height: 25.5" (I can go about 3" higher if need be)
Body diameter: 4" (a little tight here, but might have another 1" available in body dia. with a little moving things around in the sump)
Footprint width: 8" (not much more room available)
Footprint length: 10" (can go up to 11")

Budget: I am willing to spend up to $300

How about an ASM Mini G? Small footprint. But like all skimmers you need to allow them time to break in.

I like the Vertex 80 or a Reef Dynamics INS80

I would recommend the Super Reef Octopus Xp-1000INT or the SSS for the smaller footprint. They will outperform any of the skimmers you mentioned.

I have the asm mini works great for past 2 years. I really like the bubble magus skimmers also

Yes most are better than coralife. There are many better than bubble magus also.
After seeing one in person and seeing my Reef Dynamics there is no comparison in quality. In price also.

Fwiw I just got a new Warner marine mf161 for my 90 and while it's dimensions are large it it's a great piece of hardware. It started skimming within he fired two days and is soooooo simple to setup an adjust. Njght and day when compared to my Bermuda aquatics
