Yesterday I droped a small bolt in my 100 gallon tank. I can't reach it because it fell between rocks glued with "reef construct". ~
Could there be a problem with corrosion? I'm thinking that for that amount of water this won't make a difference, right?
I wouldn't risk leaving it in. A 100 gallon tank is still a closed system, so potential for toxins to accumulate does exist. Even with routine water changes. One bit of information though would be the type of bolt (metal type) and if you know the "purity" of that bolts metal.
Remove it at once. You cannot be too safe with metals -- don't let any come in contact with the water. (Of course, chillers often have titanium chambers, so there are exceptions.)
Good lord people. I know that we maintain closed loop systems, but dammn...
Some of the most diverse reef systems in the modern world grow on the skeletons of WWII ships that were sunk in the medeterranean and in the Indian oceans.
I know that we have a fraction of the flow and turnover that those natural systems have, but DANG, one screw?!?!
I have SS fittings all over the tank. No problems here. Of course I have a total of about 13 months experience here, but hey... Lets quote experience and scientific data instead of hearsay please!! One bolt in the tank that he describes should be a non-issue IMHO.
The only way I could probably remove it is wtih a magnet. I have no ideia where it is. I can't see it, and I can't very well lift 40kg of live rock glued together. It would fall apart for sure...
