Well, I bought a beautiful blue spotted mushroom from an on-line vendor (wysiwyg). Unfortunately, they don't look so beautiful under my 50/50 compact fluorescents  Just kinda a murky red/brown color. Yuck! I guess I'll go ahead and order metal halides now.

WYSIWYG is kind of misleading since it depends a lot on the lighting condition. Did the dealer state what type of light is being used for the photo?

hey what kind of lights do you have now? what is the wattage and color.
I have an orbit unit and they have different bulbs that I can put in to get the effects that I want.

what brand name lights? are they just regular flourescents for say like a freshwater set up?

also what wattage do you have?

The wattage doesnt really matter for color in this case. They are 50/50 Power Compact Florecents. Not Normal out put . I have some zoas that looke completely different under 50/50s compared to being under my MH/ VHO combo. I personally dont care for the blue that PCs give off. I dont think they bring out the colors that VHOs do.
Also, If you can afford MH. You wont regret buying them.

Could be shipping stress. Give it some time to see what happens. I had some frags get dull on me and I only "shipped" then a mile.

The light could be an issue also.

I am not even sure what my lights are, they are an orbit unit, regular orbit it has 4X96 watts 72" I can interchange bulbs and make different light configurations, the purple brings out the colors, 2 of the bulbs are split with purple and blue and the other two are white. my next set of bulbs are going to be purple and white. see how that goes
