I have a 46 gallon bow front right now and i think i want to upgrade. I'm still debating on what tank i want, either a 75 gallon rimless or a shallow reef. But what should i do with my corals and everything. do you think its safe to just switch everything over. Like the water volume in my tank is around 80 gallons right now. I'm just scared that moving everything into the new tank with all the live rock, sand and coral at one time will kill something. Tell me what you think.

not as difficult as you think. i have done it twice with minimal to no losses. you just have to do it quick, drain water into rubbermaid, place heater and powerhead, place all live coral and fish. after new tank is plumbed and ready, put old sand in new tank, pump water to new tank and put all livestock in new tank. add saltwater mixed at right salinity in with old water and run some carbon and filter sock

Just make sure temp is good before transferring livestock.

I wouldn't dump old sand into new tank without throughly washing it. In fact many members will tell you to throw out the old sand and start with new. Cleaning will be time consuming but fine.

Cheap? It's cheap if you have a small tank or are going to have a shallow sand bed. For my fuge alone if I were to do a deep sand bed of 6 inches at $20 a bag would run me over $250
