It helps, But it will come back if you don't figure out why you are getting it in the first place. How long is the tank been setup for? what is your light cycle? What lights do you have ? If you have t5s or MH how old are the bulb's Are you running GFO? How much do you feed? Do you have a CUC in your tank? So many things Can result in hair algae. Water changes So and so on.
If you post details of your tank, feeding, and lighting schedule that'd help in figuring out what to recommend what to do.
W/o knowing, I'd suggest water changes with RO/DI and reduce lighting. Plus and remove as much as you can by hand. I use a airline tubing as the siphon so I don't remove too much water but can still suck and pull out hair algae. let it get sucked in the tubing then grip the tubing and pull to remove from the rocks.
As every one stated above figure out why your getting it first. And then remove it manually. I use a tooth brush. Shut your pumps off and try to keep it from floating around. You don't want to spread it. Keep at it and it will disappear.
the crab is the lfs is talking about is probably the emerald crab but u should def check ur water parameters and manually removing it before getting it.
before recommending anything we need to find out (which has been stated many times on this thread) on what all his levels are. judging by the pic he posted on the other thread hes got some issues in that tank. so answer all the question people have asked for and we can go from there :thanks:
If it is just a little then use a brush to clean it off and if possible out of the tank in a container with saltwater. If you have to do it in the tank, shut off the pumps before you brush and then siphon out as much as possible and use a net to clean up what floats around.
