Here are some pictures of my SPS "stoney corals. SPS and LPS are stoney corals. Meaning they grow skeletons covered in tissue that is usually colored and they have small polyps.

LPS have skeltons and large polyps, like the bubbles on the bubble coral. That is a large polyp.

Here's my SPS pics.

What size determines weather it is LPS OR SPS?

I don't think I have ever seen a size spelled out. The SPS's polpys are all very small. LPS's polyps's are quite large. I don't think I have ever seen a medium polyp, so there isn't much room for confusion IMO.

To really get "back to basics", SPS = Small Polyped Scleractinian

Louey,

You fragging that superman? It's beautiful!

Thank you. I agree that it is beautiful. I am keeping it all for myself for now. For that matter, I'm not fragging anything out of my tank yet. Got wait for it to grow, grow, grow.

You are correct. I started to look it up to be certain, but was too lazy. The term scleractinian specifially refer hard "stony" corals. Corals that grow skeletons.
