Substrate for a turtle tank

What could I use as Substrate in a turtle tank? My turtles are now about 8inches from head to tail (shell alone).

I want something to cover the bottom cause I hate looking at plain old glass.

Any ideas? Could i use gravel (very fine) since they are bigger now? Sand?

I like the natural stones/rocks/pebbles.

a bag of river gravel.

Pool sand... works great. throw in a few large pebbles for good measure too.
