Starting next week, after our little one's birthday, we are going to make a DYI background/rockwork shelf for our tank. We already have a nice piece of eggcrate. It fits perfectly in the back of our tank between the overflows. We want to use Portland #3 cement and aragonite along with all of the shells that are littering the bottom of our tank. We want to put the cement/aragonite mixture on the eggcrate so it covers the whole thing. We also want to make rock shelves on it. This is the first time I will be attempting to do something like this. Any hints or suggestions are very welcome. Also, we will have no room for our background to sit in water and cure. It will be too big for any container that we have. Will it be ok to let it sit for a few months in the rain and sun? We have a huge glass patio table that I want to leave it out on for a while. Is it ok to use a garbage bag underneath of our new background while we are making it? IT won't go in the tank. It will be just to protect our junk from getting cement on it. It won't harm the fishes later, right?
