I have a 75gal reef tank with a 30 gal sump installed under it . Im looking to move the sump tank to another room for both space and ease of maintenance the new run would be 15 ft horizontal and 3 1/2 ft verticle. right now there is a 1 inch feed to sump and a 3/4 inch return off the pump to main tank .How do I calculate what size pump tp use ?

Horizontal will not affect or use head pressure. So in that sense u could use an ehiem pump. I can't remember model number. Then It would come down to what u have for flow Inside the tank? I like having minimal flow through my sump to allow my skimmer more water contact. So by that i mean u do not need a huge gph pump.Hope this helps

You will need to compensate for more backflow into the sump when you shut of the pump. Since the increase amount of plumbing will increase the amount of water that will flow back into your sump.

I will go with a external pump with a ball valve to regulate your flow and u can always Tee it off to feed any reactors you choose. Also go with a check valve..
