Curious to know if this is true in Staten Island as well.
Would be interesting to go to the park or the beach and scoop some mysis to colonize my sump

One of the limiting factors in find them in Brooklyn & SI might be this quote from the article:
Look for calm, protected bays with some fresh water input. Right now I?m finding the best swarms near the mouths of rivers and creeks in salinities between 10 and 20ppt.
I know Todd was collecting by the Peconic River in Riverhead.
Since it is almost May, you may not find them in the quantities shown in the pics (wow!) but near most docks you can typically find some Mysis and also Grass Shrimp. You need to be cautious about what may be floating on the surface of the water ..as in oil and whatnot from any nearby boats
