Livestock in rubbermaid containers and 5 gal buckets equipment in the same truck, have lots of hands, some heaters and powerheads and a powerinverter in the truck to power them then go at the time of least traffic possible as soon as you're there setup the tank add livestock last afte everything has a chance to settle.
Thats exatly how I did it. Except with only my hands!! I had to spilt it all up. I had most of my corals at a friends house and my fish at another friend's house. Then I moved all my liverock on the following day into rubbermaid containers that were ready with mixed water. The thirsd day was the tank move. I had to do in this order because I was waiting on a truck to move my 180. It all worked out very well and I had a chance to start everything all over again from scratch which was nice. I got to work out all the kinks from my first set-up.
I have moved my tank three times. Each time I did it basicly the same way, which is basicly what other have suggested.
I used a mixture of rubbermaid containers and five gallon buckets. Equipement went into the rubbermaids; rock and livestock into the buckets. It is temtpting to put stuff into the rubbermaids (such as all your live rock), but remember when you add water it gets heavy fast. I was never going very far so I didn't trouble myself with a heater and a airstone on the driver over, but it's not a bad idea to use one if you have far to go. It is a must when stuff is waiting in the new/old house before/after the journey.
If you have access to the new location before the move it is a good idea to prep the area. Have some "fresh" slatwater made (with a heater in it if you can). It is amazing how much water you actually end up bringing with you, but it is better to have to much water made than find out you don't have enough.
Oh yea....This is a good time for an upgrade. As it is makes it so much easier if you are moving everything into a new tank (Any excuse is a good excuse for an upgrade) The last time I did the move I changed out about half the sand in my DSB, othertimes I have just moved all the old sand over. (Sand is another thing that is really heavy- nothing more than a five gallon buckets worth)
