Anyone see a problem using a tank that has been sitting in an unheated garage for the last 8 months. I am just wondering if it would have any effect on the silicone. I don't want to set it up and have a leaker.
Thanx

if the tank was subjected to below freezing temperatures, and you are using an ASTME-94-001 Type clear silicone, then the hydrogen embrittlement....(use some big words and techinical terms and ppl take you seriously)
Who knows dude, how about leave it outside, pour some water and test it? :)

Well I am buying the tank from someone , it is an Oceanic 58 RR and it's been sitting in his garage unused since last May I think..it's virtually an brand new tank that 's never seen water...I didn't start thinking about it till now and I have to pick up the tank Friday. I know we have had some pretty cold weather the past month and the more I thought about it the more I was wondering. But since it's been inside his garage and not exposed to the elements just the cold , I guess I will take the chance and buy it as I can't ask the guy to fill it up and let it sit to see..and that may be the only way to know for sure eh'..
Thanx

You can always fill it up in his garage, so if it doesn't hold, at least it's his mess.:lol2: Personally, I would water test any tank from someone, unless it's still crated. I would especially do it on a "used" tank sitting around that has never had water in it. Let's face it, if you buy a new tank, who knows how it was stored, unheated warehouse, back of LFS since 1988? But, at least when you get it home, if it does leak, you have some recourse. On a used tank, even if never actually used, you get it home, find a leak and you're probably SOL.

It will probably be fine. Just take a half hour and fill it up, check it, and dump the water.

When I first caught your thread title, I thought you were looking for someone to house sit your tank while on vacation!:lol_large

Hope it works out.

Henry
