There must be algae!

In my opinion, and from what my research has led me to believe, is that somewhere in your tank there must be algae, it's in the ocean, so grow it in your sump or something. Sure some people have tricks. But I don't know them. I was going to build an algae scrubber, but instead only replaced half my filter floss and let the algae grow on that. Successful so far. Fine tuning at the moment.

I agree with you. I have three main spot in my system to grow alage so that they don't grow out of control in the DT.

I've been using that cotton filter floss for the past 2 years tossing it every few days and noticed that algae was growing on it. then I looked into "algae scrubbers" and realized I've actually had one all this time and should go longer between tossing it!
