Did you ever see it the fish was just shocked and would have come back in your tank?
This is not the best fish for your tank.
I've been in the store when you were talking with the employees. From the discussion I overheard and these posts, you may not be ready for this. I do trust the store you were at, but you need to understand everyone will have their own opinion and even if they work at a LFS doesn't always mean they are correct.

Yeah again this isn't about a issue regarding my tank. The fish never entered the actual water that is in my tank.
As for the best fish for my tank, I can only say that from what I read online, it stated that a red maroon can live in my tank.
To answer your question edd, actually I did call the store as soon as me and the other people in my house pretty much determined it was dead. The store was closed, and was closed today because of the holiday.
All I could do was leave a voice mail.
Anyway, I will talk to someone most likely tomorrow, and see what happens.

I'm not blaming the store per-se, just noting that the guy saw me leaving, and since I know he knows more than me about this, (and we both knew it was cold outside that night) he might have mentioned on exactly how I was taking it home.
With that said, that implies that the fish died from the cold temperature. Of course I can't make that determination, and no one will ever since, I was the one transporting him alone. Yet with what I've read and what other people have said such as piranapat, the fish literally could have been going into shock from being moved from the tank to the bag, and then the cold temperature or some other parameter beyond my understanding at this point, did it in.
Again, not asking for money back, but since it literally died from what I read should have been not that long of a trip for this fish, as soon as I entered my house, I just feel that a replacement fish for no charge is warranted, as it did not die from some unknown issue in my tank.

I still don't think it was totally dead until you opened the bag and left it on the counter.
IMO it was in shock (or play dead), and may have recovered in a proper drip acclimation to bring ph, ammonia & salinity to stability.
I experienced this on my last tank and almost flushed a couple fish..... I just proceeded to float them and they slowly recovered.
My point is to learn from this experience.

Manhattan Aquariums is the best.
They replaced my fish for no charge. This was very nice of them.
I am starting to acclimate it right now.
I am placing it (while it's in the bag it came in), in my aquarium right now for a half and hour
Then I will as instructed place it in a bucket, while using the drip method
Then I will remove half of the water (when it reaches near the top)
Use the drip method again
Do this two more times
and then finally place the fish into the aquarium.
Any other suggestions right now as to anything else I'm missing would be appreciated.

when its cold outside and you buy a fish think about the temp drop 5 dregrees can be catastrophic to a fish that already stressed out

With that said, I feel that the filters I have are creating too strong a current for it?
It seems to be staying in one spot, and moving it's fins very fast?
Can I get away with just using the HOB filter, at least until it gets bigger, or will that affect the dissolved oxygen content in the water and thus affect the invertebrates living in my tank (currently just 3 hermit crabs, 3 nassarus snails, 1 bumblebee) and the anaerobic bacteria that need oxygen in order to process ammonia and nitrite?

Glad to hear they replace the fish. That is rare and very nice of them. Excellent job for MANHATTAN AQUARIUM. If he is small he might like staying high up at night. But he should find a spot where he's comfortable. When you feed him you can see if they is a place in the tank that current is less. By just seeing food moving through the tank. I wouldn't worry about the strong current as long fish has a place to catch his food and can swim. And at times stay between rocks ect...Good luck and enjoy the fish. And any question please ask. Let us know if he's eating. Here is a link about disease and symptoms to look out for. Clownfish are hardy but stress and eating can play a role in fish health.

It's below 40 based on the color, but the color (a somewhat deep orange was what 20ppm looks like from the api chart?
Anyway I was thinking of doing my first water change, maybe 20% of the water in a few days?
However I spoke with a fish expert at Petland who deals with a-lot of saltwater, and he said that every week would just cause stress to the fish, (especially since it is a juvenile and so small). He suggested every 2 and half weeks?
Second question: I am wondering if I should feed it now a little bit every day or every other day?

Ok, I went back to read some of your post. This is a 20L tank with LR and been running a little over 5 weeks or so.
First question about water changes. Since the tank is new I wouldn't do any water changes for another few weeks. Let the tank mature a little. But down the road you can change it once a week or every 2 weeks and even once a month. What works for you is best. Since you only have one fish start out with 5%.
Feeding should be at least once a day. Mysis , brine shrimp,clownfish pellets is good. Flake food is good to. You can feed him twice a day too. But just feed him just enough and not to over feed the tank.
Maroon clown fish are aggressive. As they get older they can get nasty in especially in small tank.
